MOCK EXAM

Online and T.V distributing such as Itunes and youtube devalues music by reinforcing it to being bland and stale and highlights how this may be a more beneficial route for an artist or band  to follow in terms of success. Alternativley, it has allowed new alternative music material to be marketed and consumed to audiences which can be reinforced as new and pure.

Indie bands genrally will not benefit from online distributing as they have no financial support form a record label to support the costs. For example, as digital distribution has advanced in term of technology such distributing as 'youtube to Mp3 cnverter' Audiences are downloading these music form these sites for free whcih is a form of piracy. It is significant for indie bands such as 'Mumford and sons' to have their music consumed through media products such as C.D's as this is where there money would be  made due to lacking in the financlail suippoirt a record label would give theri bands. Even though there music is considered 'pure' as they  have not been tied down to a record label that genrally make their atrists produce bland and stale music, not having finacnial support form record labels to invest in expnsve onlne distribruting such as adverts and they have online pricay being ditsrubted from 'youtube to mp3 converter' theyre music is still pure however , not as sucessful.

Alternatively, Major record labels such as Sony benefit from digital distribution- however it makes there music stale and impure. . For example a daughter company of sony- sycho uses the owner of X factor and sycho in a form of synergy to deliver recycled music to their mass audience. A contestant on X factor misha B covered the song 'would I lie to you' which was distributed on T.V. Sycho Marketed the produced by using EMI's back catalogue and using this song, and changing it to the beat of the song to make it more relevant to a modern day  audience.  This is a form of  stale music as they are simply recycling an old song to try and make it as successful again as it once previously was. Therefore the distributing their recycle music through television bnefirts them as they are marketing old successful songs that went up to the top ten in the charts which highlights how a lot of audience have therefore consumed it.

On the other hand, Beck has allowed music to be interpreted alternatively by his audience as he provided them with notes which they could interpret differently. This allows the audience to become prosumers to create there own unique devised music which can be considered pure. He distributed this music online trough the use of my space space and youtube where people then interpreted it in there own forms on youutbe to market it  to their own audicnes. This shows how online distribution is signifciant to artists such as Beck as it allows them to markt their music online where it ca then be interpeted by his prosumers to create pure diverese music.

Opposedly, the new role of prosumers can create stale, bland music through the use of online distribruiton such as youtube. For example, music artists such as 'danger Mouse' took a variety of well known songs and blened them togheter to create a 'mash up'. they then distributed it on youutbe to market it to their audiene. This allows people like danger mosue ot be prosumers as they are creating there own music from the msuic they previously listened as an audicne. However, this is similarly to the syco case study a form of recyling music which leads to it being devalued as the music is successful old songs that are now being edited to being current to the modern day audicne. In relation to my introduction, this stale music is however successful as it is being distribute to youutbe which has a mass audience available to listen to the musisc. moreover,  the music is devalued but it is expected from a modern day audience and therefore it is deemed successful.

Therefore onlie distribruting reinforces balnd and stale music. For example X faxtor markets thre music through back catologues. Howveer it makes it succesful . As oppsosed to prue music not beign as ssuccesful.

It has allowed everyone to be able to market and consume a wide rang of music over many platforms making it easy for anyone produce and distribute music to a global audience not just the major labels.

beck is a key example as the new way in which he markets and distributes his music to his audience is over social networking sites and a key difference with beck is that he has made it so his audience produced and distributed the music for him as he produced sheet music which he made available to his audience getting them involved in the production process of the music gain audience participation, allowing them to interpret the music in their own way opening his target market as the music can be listened to in any genre.

Syco is part of a major record label which hosts a television show put on to find to new talent, as syco is part of a major record label they have the rights to many well known songs in their back catalogue and can also access songs from the back catalogue of over labels for a price which they can promote/market though their television show, they get the audience involved with their music by allowing them to decide what they want on by voting for the act which they want to see one stage. syco also use a high amount of visualisation in the marketing with artist such as one direction this to produce as sellable image that people buy into making it more about the appearance rather than the music.

digital distribution has made it so that indie labels can actually compete with large major record labels due to the fact they can market their artists widely to a large audience at a low price where as in the past it was only major record labels that had this ability has it cost a huge sum of money to invest in large amounts of marketing. these labels can also  distribute their music over platforms such as sound cloud, itunes and spotify ETC this means that their music is also available to be consumed easily by their audience as well.

everybody now has the ability to become a  prosumer in that everyone has the abilty to access a wide range of music that they can download, change , mix and mash up to produce a new piece of music from the original and then put it on to youtube and spotify etc for others to listen to, this takes production, distribution and exchange (PDE) and mix them all together because where before each step was carried out by a different industry body now one person from their own home can produce a whole new track from old music, market it other social networking sites and distribute it over platforms such as youtube and sound cloud.

MOCK EXAM

Successful Media Products depends as much upon marketing and distribution to a specific audience  as they do upon production practice’ To what extent would you agree with this statement.

Visualisation is a key  point to my agreement with this statement. For example. A record label such as Sony depend on production to ensure that there media products such as a song is successful. Moreover, the production  involves the creation of the media product. Production is the responsibility of the production company. Therefore it is important to have production as it is the stage where the song is created and researched into. Moreover audience research is included within production as it is important to know before creating a song who the song is being aimed at and how they can then use this information to create a song best suited to this particular niche audience to allow them to get the nest response possible Additionally, they will research into what competitors such a as other record labels or individual successful artists are doing so that they can then use these ideas or create something completely different. Therefore it is important to have production in order to create a successful media product.  However in order for the song o t be successful it needs to be balanced with marketing and distribution. It is important for a record label to consider and depend on production and marketing and distribution equally as without both the song would only be successful which would lead to an decrease in revenue which could result in a company such as record label going bust. The marketing and distribution is just as important as the creation of the media product as it promotes it and creates customer awareness to their specific audience. For example with a successful media product such as a song  a form of marketing  which can be interpreted as visualisation allows interaction with music. Younger consumers of music tend to only feel a sense of interaction with music if it was more visual. For example a record company such as Sony cannot depend on the music alone as this would not create sales. A large percentage of the income from music revenue s due to the music video. As the music video acts as a sense of promotion. Therefore the music video has adapted to being the key to the sales of the music track. As music has been stated to be dull and stale due to the same songs being created that all consist of a similar music line such as a bass beat and a drop. Therefore to make it ‘appear’ different the record company needs to ensure that there media product is different and unique as  the track is not due to it having  a similar sound to all other songs in the charts. Therefore they use a music video as a formal of visualisation. The music video is distribution and acts as a form of marketing because it creates an image for the music which provides the audience with something to engage with therefore this visual aspect creates the success of the music. This emphasizes how it is important to depend on both the production to create a successful media product as this is initiates the success for product in terms of making it suitable for the  target audience through research and applying this knowledge to the song. But also distribution an marketing as this acts as a form of promotion which increases the chance of a media product being successful as it creates customer awareness. It also allows consumers to feel interacted with the music. This can be done visually through the use of media video. Games online, apps which all act as a form of promotion to allow the audience to interact with the music and therefore feel connected to it resulting in them purchasing it which symbolizes a successful media product.

Music is visualised.

This is generally now through music videos.
They are sexualised which sells the music. Music video a. artist s visualise their music around the way they look. This creates revenue due to that fact that they do not only make profit from music alone due to people downloading music for free. Visualising is an excellent form of promotion as it allows people to look at artists work which signally acts as a form of promotion.
Additionally, for example in our song we made a music video as a for of promotion through visualisation, as its set in Chessington which connotes a fun and young audience and atmosphere, this shows how visualisation is added to music too to make it come live to our audience promoting our song and band.

Evaluation Question Six. India.

Syco is Simon Cowells company under the name of Simco Ltd in 2002 under Sony entertainment. It specialises in film, music, tv and entertainment. To get across to their varied audiences they have offices and bases all over the world for their global market and audience. Shows such as Britain's Got Talent (which later went on to American, Turkey, France and Spain and many more, it's now a global show phenomenon ) and The XFactor (mainly mirrored on America where Simon cowell also hosts it) and acts such as One Direction and Leona Lewis are signed and produced and marketed by Syco. Through his global marketing and media campaigns he ha been able to selling over 200 million albums and reach over 180 number one hits for his artists. Due to Simons celebrity status he has also used this to sell and make him and his artist alot of money. He has been named one of the Most Influential people in the worlds one of the most powerful person in reality tv. This is also a good use of advertising as he I promoting himself and therefor promoting his brand and artists alike to the world, he also uses his connections to promote artists such as 1D who appeared on The XFactor US ,where Simon is also a judge, to promote them to the US market. Syco has a film for 1D to ensure more millions will be made for the band, ensuring they will stick around for a long time to continue to make more and more millions for the company to keep them going and safe from administration like so many other company's around the world have. The newest show Simon has produced is called the You Generation to compleat and keep up with the music times of music ad networking communication being digital and mainly on YouTube, he has come up with a show to combine with the new and the changing trends, this is why Simon remains at the top of his game as he moves with the times instead of trying to stay the same and hope people will go back to their old ways.

Syco to promote world wide uses synergy across all of the medias, to ensure to reach all of his audience in every possible way. For example for One Direction, his marketing and media team made a website, arrange interviews(radio and tv) create a twitter and Facebook page, YouTube channel and an interactive game over the Internet to draw in more fans, the games incorporates all of the media to find clues in for example a magazine or a TV show, to win a prize (mostly tickets to their show) this is a clever way to advertise as it's fun for the audience and ensures that the fans and people who are not even fans are bombarded with promotion so the artists remains talked about and become celebrity's for people to follow, love and support AKA buy tickets and merchandise to keep the band going as they no longer can make a profit from just record sales as so many people now just download of the Internet, so company's like Syco have to come up with new was to promote and get many from other means or they would go bust and that would be another music company gone forever like EMI before us.
